Mystic Destiny

Chapter 1: The Hunted

A large city lies in the middle of a large expanding wasteland. The wasteland is void of life, nothing but sand and rocks to lay upon its barren landscape. The city that lies within this land of the grim reaper has many buildings made out of finally crafted stone spanning for miles and miles throughout the vast wasteland. A large castle lies in the middle of the city. Its red banners of a sword and axe clashing together were waving in the powerful winds of the night. In the back of the castle was a giant blue crystal that was several feet higher then the castle. The crystal glowed like moonlight as it continually dropped water from its sides into a giant well. Many men and woman were walking around in the streets of they city heading back to their homes and children. But one individual hid his face amongst the crowd. It was a seventeen year old man wearing a black hooded robe. The man walked quietly to an alleyway and then disappeared from sight amongst the shadows there. The man continued down the dark narrow alleyway until he reached a small house. The man entered the house as he was greeted by a cheerful twelve year old girl. The young girl’s hair was short and black while her eyes were brown. She also wore a very nice blue dress.

“Welcome back Geoffrey!” exclaimed the seven year old girl. The hooded man took off his hood revealing a face of a strong man. The man had medium length black hair which was sort of spiky near his face. The man’s blue eyes looked happily at the seven year old girl.

“Hello Micaiah” said Geoffrey.

“Were you able to get the food for tonight?” asked Micaiah.

“I sure did” said Geoffrey while taking out two loathes of bread. “I’m sorry I wasn’t able to get as much as yesterday.”

“Its okay big brother” said Micaiah as she took a loath of bread from Geoffrey. The two siblings began to eat their bread inside their small home. Their were two beds next to each other on the far side of the room with cabinets and kitchen wear next to the beds. The siblings sat at a small wooden table in the middle of the room with a small lit candle dimly lighting the small home.

“Yum, this bread is delicious!” exclaimed Geoffrey.

“Yeah…Geoffrey do you know when we can stop hiding our faces in public” said Micaiah. Geoffrey shook his head.

“The soldiers won’t stop looking for us until this war is over probably” said Geoffrey.

“But why are they looking for us in the first place?” asked Micaiah.

“I don’t actually know myself little sister. But I have been noticing that other children that lost their parents to this war have been taken away by them. They keep saying that their being taken to a place where they will be taken care of, but I haven’t seen any of those kids for weeks. Even if they were brought to another home I would have eventually seen them.” said Geoffrey.

“Why was this war ever started?” asked Micaiah “I don’t like it at all. I always here sad stories everywhere; nothing seems happy in this world anymore.”

“I really don’t myself; I guess the empire just wanted the land of the dragons I guess. It seems like a pointless reason now right Micaiah?” asked Geoffrey.

“Yeah…” said Micaiah. Geoffrey noticed that Micaiah was beginning to look very gloom. He knew that Micaiah never liked talking about the war; it reminded her that her parents were dead and that the world she was in was filled with misery.

“Hey, what did you do today?” asked Geoffrey.

“Oh, nothing much, just the normal house chores” said Micaiah with a smile.

“Ha ha, same old, same old, huh?” said Geoffrey.

“Yeah, things have been pretty lame lately” laughed Micaiah. Geoffrey always liked hearing Micaiah laugh so happily. “Well I’m feeling kind of sleepy. Do you mind if I go to bed now?”

“Sure, go ahead” said Geoffrey.

Micaiah got up from the table and went over to her bed. She lied down under the covers of her bed and began to slowly close her eyes.

“Goodnight” said Geoffrey.  The starry sky illuminated the dark roads of the city. Geoffrey never slept that night. He watched over his sister so as to protect her if the soldiers ever came to their home. Time passed by until the sun rose over the city once more. Geoffrey put on his hood again and began to head for the door.

“You’re going to get breakfast now?” asked Micaiah while rubbing her eyes.

“Yep, I’ll be back soon!” exclaimed Geoffrey.

“Ok” said Micaiah.

Geoffrey headed out of his home and went back into town. He held his head low so that no wandering eyes could see his face. Geoffrey went to the bread stand to get two more loathes of bread. Fruit and vegetables have become so rare in their world now that they were too expensive for Geoffrey to buy. After the merchant Geoffrey his bread, Geoffrey thanked the merchant and handed him his money. Geoffrey then walked back to his home. But as he did he felt that something didn’t feel right. As soon as Geoffrey reached his house he saw a horrifying scene. The door to his house was wide open and everything inside was a mess. But the worst thing of all was that he didn’t see his little sister anywhere. Geoffrey dropped the bread and ran in the opposite direction in which he came.

“Micaiah!” screamed Geoffrey “Micaiah!”

When Geoffrey reached the end of the alleyway Geoffrey noticed that soldiers blocked his path. The soldiers wore gray heavy armor which covered their entire bodies and also wore a helm which masked their faces. Every one of them wielded a spear. One was different from the others though, the helm he wore had two horns sticking straight up in the air. He held Geoffrey’s sister with one of his hands over his sister’s mouth.

“Let my sister go!” screamed Geoffrey as he tried to punch the horn helmed soldier but was kicked by one of the soldiers surrounding him. Geoffrey fell to the ground while the same soldier pinned him down by jumping on top of him and pushing his neck down with his spear. Geoffrey struggled to get up but was unable to.

“Settle down Geoffrey, if you do it won’t be as hard as your making it to be” said the horned helm soldier.

“How do you know my name?” asked Geoffrey angrily.

“I know all of the children of the empire’s soldiers said the horned helm soldier.

“Even so, you still take away their children when they passed away!” exclaimed Geoffrey.

“Of course, why would I leave poor children alone with no one to care for them” said the horned helm soldier as he held on to Micaiah tighter “Now are you going to come quietly or do I have to convince you more.” Geoffrey yielded to the horned helm soldier and stopped struggled.  “Knock him out.” The soldier on top of Geoffrey knocked out Geoffrey with one quick punch. Micaiah struggled to try to free herself from her captives grip.

“Let me go! Let me go!” screamed Micaiah.

“General Resaf should we cuff him?” asked the soldier on top of Geoffrey.

“Yes, do just that. We can’t have him escaping after he wakes up now can we?” asked the horned helm soldier.

--

Geoffrey slowly began to wake up. He found himself inside some sort of dungeon. Potions surrounded him in every direction. Geoffrey tried to stand up but found himself strapped on to a table with his head facing the ceiling. Geoffrey then began to hear voices coming towards him.

“Ugh, another failed subject” said an old man. The old man wore a white cloak covering his entire body. His hair was very short and was very white.

“Unfortunately, but don’t forget what her mothers blood gave to her husband” said Resaf.

“Oh, yes, I remember perfectly that’s why I decided to use her blood for the next subject” said the old man as he came closer to Geoffrey. “So Geoffrey, are you ready to receive my potion?” asked the old man. Geoffrey glared at him sinisterly knowing that there was no way of escaping. “Well then, if you have no rejections I’ll give it to you now.” The old man took out a red colored potion. “General Resaf if you would be so kind to open up the subject’s mouth.”

“Gladly, Hozen” said Resaf as he held Geoffrey mouth open with two of his fingers. Geoffrey struggled to close his mouth but was unable to. Hozen began to pour the red potion into Geoffrey’s mouth. The vile taste of it made Geoffrey wince in disgust. After the potion was completely swallowed by Geoffrey Resaf let go of his mouth.

“And now we wait” said Hozen.

Geoffrey began to feel a burning sensation in his left arm. The burning grew into an unbearable pain. Geoffrey screamed in agony as the pain spike through his entire arm. As he screamed a gold marking began to magically draw itself onto Geoffrey’s left arm. The pain continued throughout Geoffrey as the marking neared completion. When the marking was finally complete the pain ended as quickly as it appeared and Geoffrey fell unconscious. On his left arm was a drawing of a two footed beast with a body of a wingless dragon but had demonic looking eyes. The claws of it were very large along with the four spikes that seemed to come out from its back. The creature was woven into the eloquent design of the gold colored marking.
