Chapter 9: The Book of Soren

Sieg and Zaven returned from the forest and re-entered the dragon valley. Dragon children were playing in river again as if the war and the life threatening battle Sieg endured didn’t even happen. The dragon children’s lives were so simple; they didn’t have to worry about wars, chaos, and destruction in the world. Their world was the valley; they knew nothing outside of it. All they wanted to do everyday was play with their friends and have fun. Sieg looked towards the dragon children in sadness, wishing he could have a life like theirs but he knew it would never happen; there was too much responsibility that rested on his shoulders. He couldn’t let everybody down.

“Hey Sieg, you all right?” asked Zaven, breaking Sieg out of his trance.

“Yes, I’m fine” replied Sieg.

“Come on then. I need to show you where we need to go” said Zaven.

Sieg followed Zaven as he led Sieg out of the dragon valley. They went through the light slayer camp and began to climb up a steep hill. When they reached the top there stood in front of them a gorgeous castle. The castle was much larger then a dragon. It was crafted from stone with many window holes carved into the four corner towers. Each of the four towers held a guard looking outward into the distance except for the back left tower which had an oddly shaped roofed with multiple colors. Shields hung over the entrance into the castle which was accessed by crossing over a wooden draw bridge. Under the bridge was a beautiful moat which surrounded the entire castle and held many different kinds of fishes which swim constantly around the moat. Two light slayers in their white armor guarded the entrance to the castle.

“So Sieg what do you think?” asked Zaven.

“It’s amazing!” exclaimed Sieg “But what’s with that one odd tower?”

“Oh, that would be where Izuchi resides. I don’t know why he wanted that tower like that myself; no one really does. But he’s a genius so we kind of look past the negatives of him. Anyway let’s head inside” said Zaven.

Sieg and Zaven walked up to the entrance to the castle but were stopped by the two guardsmen.

“Halt! What is your business within the castle?” asked one of the guards.

“We are here to report information of the highest importance to Lord Griver” said Zaven.

“Let them through!” exclaimed the guard as he and the other moved to the side to let Sieg and Zaven through.

“Lord Griver?” asked Sieg.

“He’s are leader” replied Zaven.  

Sieg and Zaven step into the castle. It was very beautiful inside. Flowers and shrubbery hang from indentions in the wall creating a natural look. The floor was covered in a red carpet of a beautiful design. The stairs in the center of the floor were made out smoothly cut stone which led up to a large double door. Two additional stairs of the same design went in opposite directions of one another from the double door. On the floor Sieg and Zaven were on there were many doors supposly leading to the many different sections of the castle.

“Are leader is through those double doors straight ahead” said Zaven as he pointed to the large double doors “I’ll be heading there to give the report of our mission. As for you Sieg take the book to Izuchi and see what that book those monsters were looking for says.”

“Sure, no problem, but how do I get to Izuchi’s tower?” asked Sieg.

“Just head up the western stairs” said Zaven as he pointed towards the stairs to the left.

Sieg and Zaven walked up the central stairs. Zaven went through the double doors as Sieg continued up the western stairs. The stairs continued upward endlessly, spiraling around and around. Finally Sieg reached a small wooden door at the top of the stairs and opened it. But as soon as he did something exploded within the tower and piece of metal barely missed Sieg as it went right past him at a great Sieg, knocking over an entire shelf of books in the corner.

“Blast! It has too much power!” exclaimed Izuchi as he walked towards Sieg from the opposite side of the room which was as about as messy as the rest of the room with books and machine parts all scattered all over the place. “Oh hello Sieg.”

“Um, you almost killed me you know” said Sieg who had a surprised look on his face.

“Oh sorry about that I was just testing out a reflection device I have been working on. But I still haven’t worked out all the bugs yet. Anyway what brings you here?” asked Izuchi.

“Well I found this on my first mission from a ruin within the forest near the dragon valley” said Sieg as he took out the book he found “Zaven said you might be able to read it.” Izuchi took the book from Sieg and began to read it.

“Hmmm, interesting…wait a minute this couldn’t be…it is! Sieg come on we need to show this to Lord Griver immediately!” exclaimed Izuchi as he ran out of his room and down the stairs.

“I wonder what it is” said Sieg as he followed Izuchi down the tower stairs. When they got to the bottom of the stairs Izuchi opened the large double doors into a large open chamber with a throne at the end. Sitting on the throne was a tall, skinny man wearing a golden armor. His black hair was medium length and had blue eyes. Kneeling in front of him was Zaven who looked towards Sieg and Izuchi in surprise.

“What is it Izuchi?” asked the golden armor man.

“Lord Griver, Zaven and Sieg have discovered the book of Soren on their latest mission” said Izuchi.

Griver looked at Izuchi in surprise for a few moments but then quickly calmed himself.

“So the dark slayers were after the book of Soren” said Griver.

“The book of Soren?” asked Sieg.

“It’s a book written by a powerful dragon slayer long ago. He wrote down everything he knew about the world of Lavia. It also has powerful spell ingredients in it as well” said Izuchi.

“What puzzles me though is why the dark slayer army would just give up such a powerful object especially since we have it in our possession” said Griver.

All of a sudden a loud noise was heard outside the castle which sounded like a large explosion.
“What was that!?” exclaimed Sieg.

“Just as I thought, their army is on the attack to obtain the book. Sieg, Zaven head outside and protect the area with the rest of the light slayers” said Griver.

“Yes sir” said Sieg and Zaven at the same time as they began to run outside of the castle.

“Izuchi, turn on the castle barrier! We need to protect this book at all costs!” exclaimed Griver as Izuchi ran out of the chamber.

Sieg and Zaven exited the castle in a hurry and ran down to the Light slayer camp which was being bombarded by black dragons and catapults. Every light slayer in the entire camp area was fighting thousands upon thousands of light slayers at once. Sieg and Zaven were about to join everyone in the battle when all of a sudden Sieg saw an explosion off in the direction of the dragon valley.

“Zaven, look!” exclaimed Sieg as he pointed towards the explosion. Zaven looked in the direction in fright.

“Come on Sieg we have to get over there!” exclaimed Zaven as both he and Sieg ran toward the dragon valley. When both of them reached the valley they saw a large number of dark slayers fighting dragons while dragon children ran towards their parents.

“Why isn’t anyone defending this area” said Zaven angrily as he clenched his fist. Hyperion breathed fire on a battalion of dark slayers when he noticed Sieg and Zaven in the area.

“Thank goodness you two are here” said Hyperion as he walk up to Sieg and Zaven.

“Where’s Blayze, Tsurugi, Henry, and Victor?” asked Sieg anxiously.

“Blayze’s helping everyone in the valley escape I’m sure those three will be fine. We really need your help here we can’t hold off this many dark slayers forever” said Hyperion.

“Don’t worry we’ll help” said Sieg.

“That’s right, it’s my duty as a light slayer to defend dragons!” exclaimed Zaven.

“Thank you, both of you” said Hyperion as he rushed into battle once again.

“Come on Sieg let’s go” said Zaven.

Zaven and Sieg rushed into the battle. Sieg struck the dark slayers with an energy blast from his left hand killing several enemies upon contact while Zaven slashed the air with his sword causing a wave of water to take down several more. Sieg and Zaven started to clash with the dark slayers with their swords. Sieg took down enemies one by one in quick succession. Zaven attack several of the dark slayer army’s soldiers but was knocked down by a blast of dark energy.

“Zaven!” exclaimed Sieg as the dark slayer that knocked Zaven down slowly walked towards his prey. But before he could even get close to him Hyperion joined their battle and eliminated most of the enemies with his fire breath.

“Thanks Hyperion” said Zaven.

“Glad I could be of help to you” said Hyperion.

More enemies came running out of the forest near the valley.

“This battles far from over” said Sieg.

“Let’s take them down!” exclaimed Hyperion.

Sieg, Zaven, and Hyperion attacked the approaching enemy valiantly. Fire, energy, and water erupted throughout the entire valley. As they fought Sieg saw a hatchling dragon running away from a dark slayer. The hatchling tripped over a rock and fell to the ground. It cried for it’s mom as the dark slayer approached it.

“It’s time for you to die little dragon” said the dark slayer as he raised his sword to slash it. But right before his sword hit the dragon Sieg had appeared in front of the hatchling and blocked the attack. Sieg eyes showed anger as a golden aura began to surround his body. When this occurred Sieg slashed at the dark slayer, killing him while also knocking him into a mountain. Afterwards Sieg turned his attention towards the dark slayer army approaching his friends and shot at them with an energy slash from his sword which destroyed the entirety of the dark slayer army’s reinforcements. Zaven and Hyperion finished off the last of the dark slayers in the dragon valley and looked at Sieg in amazement. Sieg turned his attention toward the dragon hatchling who was still crying as he knelt down and cradled it in his arms.

“No world is safe from this war” said Sieg silently as he continued to cradle the hatchling in his arms.
